School Festivals
Evening
of Rhythm and Rhyme
As a culmination of the Seminar
on Urdu Language and Culture, the school celebrates an Evening
of Rhythm and Rhyme where our young (Class 11), singers, poets and instrumentalists
perform for their parents, teachers and students. The singers train
with their ustaads for months, practising ghazals, qawallis and various
instruments like the tabla, the sitar, the violin
etc. Simultaneously, the instructors for the Urdu Seminars guide them
to write Urdu poetry and then help them to recite it in a mushaira form.
Rich
Heritage of Sindhi Culture
Sindhi language and culture, rich as it is, has been somewhat
neglected both as a tradition as well as a learning opportunity. C.A.S.
has introduced Sindhi culture as a seminar for class 11 students in
order to introduce Sindhi language and culture through music and the
Sufi traditions of Sindh. As a culmination of the seminar, Sindhi Evening
is held in mid-February, in which students who take the seminar present
Sindhi music and Sindhi Folklore, while parents help with providing
delicious Sindhi cuisine.
Bake
Sale
One of the
activities of Helping Hands is to organize an annual Bake Sale. With
the help of the Parent Coordination Committee (PCC), Helping Hands arranges
the food, manages the stalls and supervises all student activities.
All parents, teachers and students are invited. Students have food,
get their faces painted and participate in the various games organized
for them. Helping Hands then utilizes the proceeds for different community
projects.
Mufty
Day
On this day, students are allowed, if they so
choose, not to wear the school uniform and come to school dressed in
casual clothes. They have to pay Rs 100 for the 'right to wear' their
casual clothes. The proceeds from the Mufty Day go to Helping Hands Trust.
Bonfire
The Junior Section has a tradition of an annual Bonfire. Held for
Class 6 on the last day of school before the winter holidays begin,
bonfire night is held on the school premises. Students stay in school
overnight, and are involved in various activities ranging from night
matches, to watching movies and cooking their dinner and then sleeping
in school. Next morning, breakfast is cooked by mother volunteers for
the students. After breakfast students go home.
Kindergarten
Concert
The annual mega-event at the Kindergarten Section is a concert. This concert is a rather elaborate affair which
runs for two hours. Students of the Kindergarten Section
makes costumes and props for their roles in the months of practice and
preparations leading up to the concert.
