The C.A.S. Philosophy

Redefining Educational Objectives

If one looks closely at the present-day school curriculum, not only in Pakistan but in most parts of the world, one finds that grades and narrowly-defined academic achievements have become the major thrust of education. Real issues, from drawing students' attention to nature conservation, to introducing them to a variety of cultural and political issues, to interests beyond the classroom, are at best offered in schools as 'extra-curricular activities'. To that extent, there seems to be a major disconnect between what we teach in schools, and the issues students have to address in their real lives. Therefore, education as imparted today, is becoming somewhat sterile and uninteresting for young learners.

At the C.A.S. we are making a modest but clearly defined attempt at removing this disconnect by making academic coursework only one part of the learning process and by offering a wide variety of Learning Modules, Foreign Languages, Seminars and community service as part of the Programme of Studies.

The School Logo

Designed by Imran Mir, the logo is a computer representation of Leonardo Da Vinci's 'Vitruvian Man'. In this famous work, Da Vinci illustrates the theories on proportion as postulated by the Roman architect Vitruvius of the first century. It demonstrates the 'golden ratio', or perfect proportion, in relation to the human body. We hope that at the C.A.S., we too can achieve the perfect proportion: the equal development of the intellectual and physical self, on the one hand, balanced by a deeper involvement in community issues and the development of a social conscience, on the other.

The School Song

The School Song was written in 1984 by Saeeda Gazdar, our Urdu teacher, and put to music by Sohail Ahmer, a student of Class 10.
