Programme of
Studies
Learning
from Nature
Kindergarten
Section
Playgroup at the C.A.S. is a
programme of learning for children between the ages of 2.6 years to
3.5 years, where they play and interact with each other in a warm and
happy environment.
A typical day starts at 9 in
the morning and ends at noon. We encourage a gradual settling in period,
and are mindful that this varies for individual children. Therefore,
parents are more than welcome to stay with their child until he or she
has settled in.
We hope parents will not put
pressure on their young children to excel, just as we make sure that
at the C.A.S., Playgroup is, indeed, no more than a play group. It is
a happy time for children to play, socialize, develop concepts and acquire
learning skills.
The curriculum of the Kindergarten
Section is based on an integrated scheme of studies. It includes several
out-of-classroom programmes with the objective of developing concepts
and language skills through carefully designed interactive programmes.
Teaching is both instruction-based and activity-oriented.
Nature studies is an important component
of the Programme of Studies at the KG Section. The KG Campus has a mini-zoo
where students are encouraged to look after birds, animals and plants.
Class discussions and writing assignments are often related to nature.
Read-Along, Writing-for-Fun, Show-and-Tell,
Creative Movement, Art, Music, and structured play with sand, water
and clay are an integral part of the programme at the KG Section. In
addition, Sports Day, Fun Fair, the Annual Concert, and the Graduation
Ceremony that bids farewell to Class 2 each year, are important events
at the KG Secion.
